Dr. Luca Busani

Senior researcher,Department of Infectious Diseases

Istituto Superiore di Sanità,Viale Regina Elena 299,00161 Rome,Italy,website http://www.iss.it

Expertise
Surveillance and risk assessment of the main foodborne and vectorborne zoonoses
Statistical modelling and data analysis
Epidemiology of foodborne and vectorborne pathogens
Training of epidemiology, surveillance and risk assessment for veterinary public health personnel of the local and central veterinary services
Project management and reporting

Areas of interest
His main research activities are the epidemiology of zoonoses,in particular foodborne and vectorborne. Studies of the distribution in animals of antimicrobial resistant bacteria of human health relevance (vancomycin resistant Enteroccus spp. and fluoroquinolon resistant E. coli). In the last years he started research collaboration with toxicologists on environmental and food contaminants, developing epidemiological studies for the estimates of the human exposure tocontaminants through food and the environment

He also has cooperation with national and regional public health institutions for the evaluation of zoonoses public health priorities,to support risk assessment and surveillance of infectious diseases
He is involved and coordinates training programs for public health professionals to provide them of epidemiological knowledge and tools in cooperation with public health institutions and universities
He acts as expert of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the AGISAR (Advisory Group on Integrated Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance),working in Balcans and Middle East to train on integrated surveillance models for Antimicrobial resistance and foodborne zoonoses

Prof. Patrice Nordmann

Prof. Patrice Nordmann is Chair of Microbiology,Dept of Medicine, and head of the Emerging Antibiotic Resistance Unit and of the Foreign Research Unit INSERM (Paris,France) at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and Chef Adjoint at the Institute of Microbiology,Universtiy hospital Center and University of Lausanne,Switzerland

Professor Nordmann has an extensive knowledge of the genetics, biochemistry and molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance from fundamental research to clinical applications with a major focus on emerging resistance traits such as the worldwide spread of carbapenemases. He has been the recipient of several awards including the Medaille Louis Pasteur from the French National Academy of Sciences,Paris 2012 and the Excellence Microbiology and Infectious Diseases award from the European Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases,Berlin,2013. He has taken several patents in Microbiology (rapid diagnostic),some of them leading to product in development. His research focuses now on the emerging resistance traits in Gram negatives (Enterobacteriaceae,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Acinetobacter baumannii...) from fundamental genetics to applied clinical microbiology
